What Is Borosilicate Glass & Why Is It Better?

This glass is especially resistant to thermal shock and also is stronger and more durable than regular glass.It is a type of glass which allows for a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. So it will not crack under extreme temperature changes like regular glass.These durability has made it the glass of choice for laboratories. The trademarked laboratory glassware Pyrex is an example of this type of glass.

In terms of temperature, the maximum thermal shock range (the difference in temperature shock it can withstand) of iwaki’s borosilicate glass is 120°C.  This is why you can take borosilicate glass out from the oven and run cold water over it without shattering the glass.
