In the refreshing Autumn weather, enjoying a sip of winey hot chocolate is perfect for a leisurely moment. Adding red wine for a unique twist also brings delightful flavor, making it worth a try!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 5 cups whole milk
- 1 bottle California red wine (Merlot or Zinfandel)
- Marshmallows or whipped cream for serving
Instructions:
- Whisk the chocolate chips, brown sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large saucepan or pot.
- Add the milk and heat over medium-low, whisking frequently, until it simmers (about 8-10 minutes).
- Once smooth, reduce heat to low and pour in the wine. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Pour the hot chocolate wine into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows. Enjoy!
