How Are Wine Stoppers Made?

Cork is a natural material sourced from a tree called Quercus suber L (commonly known as the cork oak tree).

Process

1. The cork wood planks, once seasoned and boiled, are brought into the factory, where they are dried for several weeks before being cut to size for cork punching.

2. The highest quality corks are punched by hand from the bark planks, while some corks are punched automatically using machines.

3. Dry the corks to the desired degree of humidity.

4. Sort the corks and decide the grade of corks.

5. The corks are washed to remove impurities before being delivered to the winery for bottle sealing.
