The Libournais region, a subregion of Bordeaux, was also passed through by the Olympic torch relay. This 7,500-hectare high-quality wine subregion in Bordeaux produces around 100 million bottles annually.
The Libournais wine region includes the main appellations of Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, and Fronsac, with a focus on planting Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.
Libournais is home to numerous renowned Merlot-based wine estates, such as Château Petrus, Château Lafleur, and Château Valandraud, one of the prestigious "First Growth" estates in Saint-Émilion.
